An Australian artist, living in Melbourne (Naarm)
Serene Paul is an emerging artist and maker who loves to explore colour, texture and abstraction within her work. She works mostly with watercolour and punch-needle but uses other media to explore her ideas. She is very much inspired by nature, abstract art and mid-century design. She has been a maker all her life and has a background in fashion design. She first started creating art pieces and exploring punch-needle in 2020 and has been hooked ever since.
To make each piece Serene firstly hand dyes all the yarn (sourced from an Australian woollen mill) using natural botanical dyes. She uses different dye baths to get different shades as well as experimenting with dip dyeing and speckling to create effects in the yarn. She enjoys being able to connect to nature with her artwork by using dyes that are derived from plants.
